Trailhead

From Boulder Bay follow the 18 east to Tulip Lane and merge onto Mill Creek Road. Mill Creek Road becomes 2N10. Follow it past other turnoffs, and after a few miles you will see signs that say Champion Lodgepole. Follow these signs until you reach the trailhead.

I would recommend a high clearance vehicle, but 4 wheel drive is not a necessity.

Follow 1W11 near the Champion Lodgepole Pine and continue on the Siberia Creek Trail until you see a sign that says the trail is not maintained beyond this point.

Description

This is a great area in the San Bernardinos. Unfortunately, the Nature Conservancy has blocked off access to Bluff Lake (you need a permit to enter) but you can still visit the Champion Lodgepole Pine and the gunsight.

The Champ sits right off the trail, so if you are just planning to go to the gunsight, you may as well stop in on this very old tree (by So Cal standards, anyway.)

The gunsight isn't really all that spectacular, which is perhaps why this trail isn't really traveled very much. You can take it all the way into Siberia Creek Camp, but your hike out is all uphill. This hike loses 500' in elevation and gains it pretty steadily.

Still, you can get some really nice views and solitude for an easily accessible trail.
