From Highway 101/Ventura Freeway in Newbury Park, exit on Wendy Drive. Drive 2.5 miles south to Lynn Road and turn right. Continue a mile or so, then just past Reino road turn left into Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa Park on the left side of the road.
This is a great family hike, with lots of variations possible depending the ages and energy of family members. The hike starts out on the fire road heading down into Big Sycamore Canyon. After a quarter mile or so, go left at the wooded bridge and visit the combo ranger station and Indian cultural center, with a number of great kid friendly exhibits. Pick up a map of the area at the Ranger station, and head out on the Satwiwa loop trail across the lovely rolling grasslands, with the stunning Boney Mountain looming overhead. In springtime the wildflowers are stunning. Highlights along the trail include a lovely pond, an old windmill, some oak groves, and lots of pretty scenery.
The trail is relatively easy, but there is one section shown on the topo map that has a gradual 300 foot rise. An alternative trail allows you to skip this section of you have very little ones with you.
