Take Highway 2 through Angeles National Forest. The turnoff to Blue Ridge West Road is just across from Inspiration Point and just West of Wrightwood. Follow this road for 7 miles to Guffy Campground. It might be hard to find parking, you just have to make do. You can follow the road or the PCT (it follows the road all the way to the trail.)
The trail itself is not marked, except for a Sheep Wilderness sign and a Burn Area - Hazards sign. It is easier to spot from the road, but there is a bit of a usage trail to the trailhead.
If you pass the ridge leading up to Pine Mountain (it is the giant peak looming in front of you) you will have gone too far.
If you are afraid of heights or have weak knees, do not attempt this hike. It is just as hard coming off this mountain as it is going up. This hike is a no-nonsense, " take me to your leader," straight up the side, kick in the butt trail, and I am not exaggerating. The hike goes straight up the ridge the entire trail.
For switchback haters: This trail contains 0 switchbacks!
If you are in excellent shape, it should be relatively easy, and when you get to the top, you may decide to continue to Dawson. I didn't bring enough food and I had to be at an event, or I might have gone all the way to Baldy. It looked very tempting.
This is a great hike with sweeping views of all the large mountains in Southern California. You don't get an actual 360', it is around 300' on both sides of the peak. This is a great hike that could be done in a really short amount of time. Highly recommended!
Also, you will not have much company on this trail, even on a Saturday.
