Trailhead
Take the Angeles Crest Highway to Dawson Gap - the highest point on the road. There is an orange Cal-Trans shed by the parking area. There is ample parking in three places along either side of the road.
If you are traveling east, it is past Islip Saddle, and if you are traveling west, it is past Vincent Gap.
The trail begins across from the Cal Trans shed.
Description
This is a short, sweet and simple hike. It took me less than 45 minutes to reach the top. It isn't the easiest of hikes; I was hiking an all-out death march pace. But, for anyone used to hiking, in good condition, this hike is a piece of cake.
I was only thinking about hiking to this peak and then bagging Burnham Peak as well. But, since I got up so quickly, I decided to make it a three peak day, and I went on all the way to Baden-Powell.
There is a plaque, a peak register, and a great 360' view from the top. Plus, the back peaks in the Angeles Forest are some of the best hiking country in Southern California.
