Description

Newport bay is one of the last remaining estuaries in Southern California. The Bay is home to more than 200 species of birds and has extensive trails thou out the area. The mudflats area has excellent dry trails that run in and out of the bay. Avoid hiking off the trails and on to the mudflats themselves. You will get stuck in the mud literally! This is an easy hike and can be modified for longer or shorter distances to fit. Also, please watch for sign posts as areas can be closed for conservation and recovery. This hike can be enjoyed all year long, but is best attempted in spring when migrating birds fill the area. Dogs are not allowed on this part of the trail.
